Homemade Butter

Hey Guys,

Did you know you can make your own homemade butter at home in less than 10 minutes! (Why the hell would we want to do that?!) Shhhh, behave internet. In some stores a quart of cream and a block of butter are pretty much the same price. Also, you can customize your butter into whatever creation you want. So next time you see heavy cream on sale, make sure you buy it up and whip up your own butter at home.

Here is how you make customized homemade butter.

Butter Ingredients-

1 Quart Heavy Whipping Cream
Pinch Salt

Italian Herb Butter-

1/4-1/2 cup Butter
Pinch Salt
Pinch Pepper
1/4 teaspoon Garlic Powder
1/2 teaspoon Fresh Basil
1/2 teaspoon Italian Seasoning

Honey Butter-

1/4-1/2 cup Butter
Pinch Salt
1/4 teaspoon Cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon Vanilla extract
1 teaspoon Honey
*Optional 1 tablespoon Powdered Sugar

Directions-

First step is to make the butter. Add your Heavy whipping cream into a electric mixer. Beat on high for 5-10 minutes.

First the cream will turn into whipped cream. Keep mixing.

Next it will get very thick. Keep mixing.

Soon the cream will break and the fat solids will separate from the liquid making butter and butter milk.

Strain off the butter milk leaving the butter. You can save the butter milk for baking like in biscuits or pancaks.

Add the butter back into the mixer to give it a rinse. Add 2 cups of cold water. It has to be cold water! you don't want to melt your butter and waste all that effort. Beat the butter on high for a minute to rinse the butter, then strain off the liquid again. Warning, water will fly everywhere so cover mixer in a towel to contain the mess.

Mix in a pinch of salt to give it a longer shelf life and that's it.  Store in a container in the fridge for a few weeks. (Not that it will last that long). 1 quart cream made about 2 cups of butter for me.

Now that you have butter, lets make something else. For a sweet treat that is awesome on warm dinner rolls or morning toast. Honey Butter!

I just did this to taste. For 1/4-1/2 cup butter add a pinch salt, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/8 teaspoon vanilla and 1 teaspoon honey. Mix together and enjoy. Since the vanilla and honey wont completely mix into the butter you can also add a tablespoon of powdered sugar to help bring it all together.

Mmmm, Italian Herb Butter. Sooo good to make garlic toast with. For 1/4-1/2 cup butter add a pinch salt and a pinch pepper. Then add 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder, 1/2 teaspoon fresh chopped basil and 1/2 teaspoon italian seasoning.

Once you make your special butters just roll then up in wax paper or plastic wrap and pop them in the freezer for when you want to use them. This is so easy and would be a fun experiment to do with kids. (I personally don't recommend this if you are lactose intolerant.) I hope you try making some unique butter creations and I'll see ya later.
